Buttery mushrooms on toast

Now for the best part. Let's turn your very own mushrooms into a warm, tasty snack!

Here is a simple, safe idea: buttery mushrooms on toast. A grown-up does the cooking on the stove, and you help along the way. Yum!

Remember, always cook your mushrooms first. Never eat them raw.

What you need

Gather these together:

  • Your fresh oyster mushrooms, washed

  • A little butter or olive oil

  • A pinch of salt

  • One slice of bread for toast

That is all! Simple food can be the tastiest food.

Let's make it

Work together with your grown-up. Here are the steps.

  1. Wash your hands. Always our first step!

  2. Tear the mushrooms into smaller, bite-size pieces with clean hands.

  3. A grown-up warms the pan and adds a little butter or oil.

  4. A grown-up adds the mushrooms and lets them cook. They sit still for a few minutes, then get a stir.

  5. Cook until the mushrooms are soft, golden, and smell wonderful.

  6. Add a tiny pinch of salt.

  7. Make some toast, then spoon the warm mushrooms on top.

Let it cool for a moment. Hot food needs to cool before your first bite!

Your safe kitchen jobs

The grown-up handles the hot stove and the hot pan. But you have important jobs too:

  • Wash the mushrooms and your hands.

  • Tear the mushrooms into pieces.

  • Fetch the plate and butter.

  • Watch the pan and count the minutes.

Working as a team makes cooking safe and fun.

Take a bite!

Sit down together and try your snack. You grew these mushrooms from a sleeping block all the way to a warm meal. Amazing!

Two golden rules stay with you forever: never eat a mushroom raw, and never eat a wild mushroom. Your kit mushrooms are safe, cooked, and delicious.

Well done, chef. Enjoy every bite!
